What is the mempool?

The "memory pool" of valid but unconfirmed transactions waiting to be picked up by a miner or validator and included in a block.

After you broadcast a transaction it sits here, not yet settled. Block producers select from the mempool — typically favouring higher fees — so a transaction is only pending until it lands in a block.
