What is the longest-chain rule?

The chain-selection rule that nodes treat whichever valid chain has the most accumulated work (effectively the most blocks) as the true history.

Every extra block represents real work an attacker would have to redo, so honest nodes converge on the fastest-growing chain. It is the half of Nakamoto consensus that resolves forks.
