What is a prosumer?
A grid participant that both produces and consumes electricity — for example a household with rooftop solar panels — so it is a production unit, not just a load.
Prosumers are the pivotal actor in a local energy market: production spreads across thousands of small endpoints, and each can sell surplus to neighbours. Their weather-dependent output is also the main source of grid instability.
