What does ZKP (Zero-knowledge proof) mean?

A cryptographic proof that a statement is true while revealing nothing beyond its truth.

It resolves the tension between verifiability and privacy: in an energy market a meter can prove "my reported usage deviation is correct" so the network verifies it without ever seeing the household's raw numbers.
