What does "law" mean in the non-legal sense (Rechtsempfinden, sense of justice)?
What matches one's own judgement of right and wrong (the personal sense of justice), or what satisfies general ethical and moral standards (natural law). It is an inner process of reflection that shapes behaviour through inner motivation.
* Law shapes behaviour by external pressure; the sense of justice shapes attitude from within *
- Personal sense of justice (persönliches Rechtsempfinden): what corresponds to my own judgement of what is commanded and forbidden, right and wrong.
- Natural law (Naturrecht): what satisfies general ethical and moral standards, independent of any statute.
- It is often used together with "injustice" (Unrecht) or "justice" (Gerechtigkeit).
- It is an inner process. It involves reflection, has an inner effect, and influences behaviour through inner motivation rather than outside pressure.

| Basis | Statutes, rulings, customary law | Own judgement, natural law |
