About this sector
Ethics. The module that asks not can we build it but should we, and gives you the vocabulary to argue either way. It starts with the foundations โ values and norms, morality versus ethics, what makes a situation a genuine dilemma โ and with the three classical moral theories every later debate reaches for: virtue ethics (what kind of person should I be?), deontology / duty ethics (what am I obliged to do?) and consequentialism (what outcome should I bring about?). From there it works outwards into business ethics (stakeholders, corporate responsibility, the ethics of global trade) and then through one applied field after another: information systems and value-based design, social media and democracy, surveillance in public space, gambling and dark patterns, police ethics, medical ethics, AI ethics, climate ethics and consumer ethics.
