What are the ten principles of Value-based Engineering?
1 responsibility for the ecosystem, 2 readiness to forgo investments, 3 involvement of relevant stakeholders, 4 moral philosophy as the key to values, 5 value principles always need a context, 6 respect for laws and international agreements, 7 commitment of relevant leaders, 8 transparency of the value mission, 9 understanding system values in depth, 10 risk analysis to determine system requirements.
This is the 2025 book version. The 2021 article states the same ideas as principles for action: take responsibility for the wider system landscape; honestly involve critical stakeholders; observe the system context continuously; use ethical principles to recognise values; analyse values conceptually; involve top management in prioritisation; reflect laws and agreements; be ready to forgo the system; disclose the value strategy transparently; integrate value goals into the product roadmap.
Tip: Group them as scope (ecosystem, stakeholders, context), finding values (moral philosophy, depth, laws), commitment (forgo, leaders, transparency) and execution (risk analysis).
