How are core values prioritised in Value-based Engineering, and what is the difference between the automation scenario and the tool scenario?

With seven equally weighted criteria, such as benefit to society and not using people merely as a means to an end. If automation serves only profit and treats displaced workers as mere means, profit must rank behind other values; if it aims to make workers' jobs easier, profit may rank higher.

Among the seven criteria: good for society; people are not merely a means to an end; management takes responsibility for the values in the system; respect for human rights; environmental aspects.

Automation scenario Tool scenario
Aim Increase profit only Make employees' work easier
Workers Merely a means of production Not merely a means of saving costs
Profit ranks Behind other values May rank higher

The priorities are then aligned with external value expectations (legal, political).
