What year was Google founded?
1998 → tub · beef.

Larry Page and Sergey Brin, two Stanford PhD students, founded Google on 4 September 1998, running the young company out of a rented Menlo Park garage. It grew from their research project "BackRub", built on the PageRank algorithm, which ranked web pages by how many other pages linked to them — treating links as votes and delivering far better results than the keyword-counting search engines of the day. The name is a play on googol, the number 1 followed by a hundred zeros, hinting at the scale of the web they set out to organise. Peg 19 · 98 → tub · beef: a slab of beef stewing in a tub.
