What year saw the first email and the first commercial microprocessor?

In 1971 Ray Tomlinson sent the first networked email between two machines on ARPANET and picked the @ sign — then a little-used key — to split the user from the host, a convention we still type today. That same year Intel shipped the 4004, the first commercially available microprocessor: a 4-bit chip of about 2,300 transistors, designed by Federico Faggin's team for a Japanese calculator maker, Busicom.
