What is identification (Identifizierung)?

Identification is the process of recognising a subject, which allows the subject's identity or individual properties to be checked; it uses evidence and is mostly performed by a registration authority as part of registration.

Synonyms: Identitätsfeststellung, Identifikation, Identitätsabklärungsprozess. It is the step that turns self-declared attributes into confirmed ones.
