What is an identity provider (IdP)?
An identity provider is an entity that issues and manages digital identities; it provides an authentication service and optionally an attribute assertion service, and typically has a registration authority.
Synonyms include authorization provider, data supplier, identity provider, authentication authority. The IdP is the trusted third party in a federation.
