What is access control (Zugriffskontrolle)?
Access control is the process of monitoring and steering the use of resources, aimed at the integrity, confidentiality and availability of information; authentication and authorisation of the accessing subjects are integral parts of it.
Decisions are usually automatic, based on the attributes or roles of an authenticated subject (ABAC or RBAC) and possibly further information such as the context of the access (location, time, security level). Decisions are normally logged for traceability and provability. Synonym: access control.
