What is a relying party (RP)?

A relying party is an actor responsible for access control to its resources; it uses IAM services and processes information from IAM service providers to protect them, and needs the subject's digital identity with the authorisation-relevant attributes plus the context of the access (location, time, security level) to judge an access request.

Synonyms: information consumer, identity consumer, solution provider, SAML service provider, verifier.
