What does the highest maturity stage — Optimized and Autonomous — look like, and what is AIOps?

Observability data drives automated responses: AIOps, predictive analytics and self-healing, with people steering the automation rather than resolving every incident themselves.

AIOps — Artificial Intelligence for IT Operations — is the use of AI and machine-learning techniques to monitor, analyse and partly automate the operation of complex IT systems. In practice it covers pattern recognition across huge signal volumes, correlating thousands of alerts into one probable cause, and predicting failures from historical behaviour.

At this stage the characteristic capabilities are:

  • Automatic scaling when demand rises, before saturation becomes latency.
  • Automatic restarts or failover of unhealthy components.
  • Intelligent alert prioritisation — the platform ranks by likely impact instead of forwarding everything.
  • Self-healing workflows and predictive analytics generally.

The goal statement is the part worth remembering: people no longer resolve every incident themselves — they steer the automation. The human role shifts from operator to designer of the rules, which raises the obvious requirement: automated remediation is only as trustworthy as the data and the rules behind it, which is why this stage sits at the end of the progression rather than being bought early.
