What are the key features of pyATS?
Usable from any Python code, modular (AEtest, Easypy), a CLI for querying live networks, a huge interface library for Cisco and other gear, it consumes topologies in JSON, YANG and more, and it integrates with build/deploy/teardown automation.
- Plain Python. The framework and libraries can be imported into any Python code, so nothing locks you into a special language.
- Modular. It is split into components, for example:
- AEtest (Automation Easy Testing): the test-case structure with setup, test sections and cleanup.
- Easypy: the runtime that executes test scripts as jobs and collects logs and reports.
- CLI. Quickly queries live networks, extracts facts, and helps automate running test scripts and other forensic tasks.
- Big interface library to Cisco and other infrastructure through a range of interfaces (CLI over SSH, REST, NETCONF, …).
- Topology input. It can consume, parse and implement topologies described in JSON, as YANG models (the standard data-modelling language for network configuration), and from other sources.
- Integration. It plugs into automation tools for building, deploying and tearing down test environments, so a pipeline can create a lab, test it and remove it again.
